MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- In 2009, I began studying at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. I wasn’t just a student but also a cadet in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. There, I was on the sabre drill team, and we competed at the national level. In the summer of 2012, I participated in a Department of Defense program to learn the Russian language at Indiana University. In 2013, through the same program, I studied in Saint Petersburg, Russia, for two-and-a-half months. Fortunately, I had this great opportunity before relations between the U.S. and Russia took a turn for the worse. My favorite memories from that trip were eating Russian food, riding on the metro, and the friends I made. In December 2013, I graduated university with a degree in Space Physics, with a minor in Technical Intelligence. I commissioned as a second lieutenant into the U.S. Air Force.

The Air Force sent me to Albuquerque for my first assignment. I didn’t really like the city, but the food and nearby mountains were unparalleled. Nearly every week, I hiked trails in the mountains and enjoyed the sunny weather. In 2015, I moved to Ohio to earn my Master’s degree in laser physics at the Air Force Institute of Technology. After a year and a half, I again moved, this time to Florida, where I live currently. I absolutely love to take my paddleboard out on the water. The Gulf is ridiculously beautiful, and the water soothingly warm. I have been a scholar in the Air Force Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP) since 2015, through which I continue my studies of the Russian language. I have completed five online eMentor courses in Russian, and LEAP has sent me to language schools in Latvia, as well as Kyrgyzstan, on overseas traditional Language Intensive Training Events (LITEs). My LITE to Kyrgyzstan was my first time in Asia, and while I didn’t know what to expect, I quickly fell in love with that country. The food is absolutely delicious, the nature dramatic, and the people are kind and hospitable. I enjoyed Kyrgyzstan so much that I’ve been back there on two more occasions for personal travel. Through LEAP, I also participated in the Training Partnership Request (TPR) program, where I provided language support to an FBI investigation. For my daily duties at work, I primarily help lead a branch at the Air Force Research Laboratory.

How will the era of COVID-19 influence society’s relationship with technology that limits privacy?

The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 fundamentally altered many aspects of human society and social interactions. It also forced many novel technologies to the forefront as businesses pivoted to operations with their employees working from home. Governments began developing and adopting new technologies to aid in tracking the spread of the pandemic. This project will discuss several examples of these exciting technologies and how they have allowed society to rapidly adapt to life during the pandemic, and how they may persist long after. More importantly, this project will also discuss how these technologies may evolve to be used in ways unrelated to the pandemic. They may allow governments or corporations to encroach on citizens’ private lives. The author has concluded that these are fascinating and great technologies, but it is important to understand them better.
Вспышка вируса SARS-CoV-2 фундаментально поменяла многие из сторон нашего общества и социальных отношений. Также она поставила на передний план много новых технологий, во времена, когда компании оказываются в ситуации, при которой их служащие работают дома.
