Air University’s Barnes Center phases out eExam for distance learning courses

The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education will end the use of eExam for testing in September 2021, which impacts students currently enrolled in the legacy distance learning (DL) Enlisted Professional Military Education courses.

Since students enrolled in the legacy Airman Leadership School, Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy DL courses take proctored exams at their local base education office, affected students must complete all tests no later than August 31, 2021, in order to get credit for these courses.

Starting September 1, 2021, currently enrolled students who have not completed their legacy NCOA DL, ALS DL and SNCOA DL courses must enroll in the Barnes Center’s new Canvas-based version.

In addition to getting the most up-to-date curriculum, the new courses allow for online testing on any device, anytime, anywhere. Students preferring to switch over now can enroll in the new course before completing the old one, however, they must first dis-enroll from the legacy course in order for the new enrollment to be processed properly. Please note that since this is essentially a different course, none of the progress in the legacy course will transfer when the student enrolls in the new DL course.

If a student doesn’t complete the legacy course by August 31, 2021, there will be no penalties or waiting times imposed for enrolling in the new courses; Airmen can enroll right away. The new courses are a fresh start.
