Pinnacle opens renovated housing at Gunter

As part of phase-one of the Maxwell-Gunter housing renovations, Pinnacle-Hunt Communities held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for 16 renovated homes on Sneed and Fisher Roads at Gunter.

This phase of the project took about three and a half months to complete and resulted in houses of increased size, said Starla Wilson, community director for Pinnacle. Additions to the homes include a garage with automatic door opener; a family room; new flooring throughout the residence; full kitchen renovation including new appliances, counters and cabinets; and new bathroom facilities.

"These renovations are going to allow residents to step into a more modern home," she said. "The houses were originally built in the 1970s, and we have brought them up to military standards, providing larger and more secure living quarters."

Ms. Wilson said Maxwell-Gunter family housing was privatized in October 2007, and Pinnacle got a slow start here. However, she said the first renovated homes are "turning the corner" towards the progress the company wants to make.

Phase-two will involve another 30 homes on Sneed and Fisher Roads with a completion date of early June, and all of Gunter should be completed in the August-September time frame. She said the renovation schedule is arranged so a family will only be displaced once from their home and will be moved into a newly renovated house.

"We are super excited about the renovations and glad to make the progress towards completing the job," she said. "We hope the residents will also be excited and take advantage of all the improvements we make as we move forward."

Ms. Wilson said renovation of some Maxwell housing has already begun on Oak, Webster and Mothers Streets, and the rest of the Maxwell improvements will be completed following completion of Gunter housing.

"We are presently enclosing car ports on Oak, Webster and Mothers Streets to make them into garages," she said. "When that is done, we will be adding garages to houses on Juniper Street."

Ms. Wilson said over the next two years, Pinnacle and Hunt will build five new homes at Gunter and renovate 217 non-historic homes and 112 historic homes on the base. The companies will also maintain 167 existing homes for a total of 501 units at Maxwell-Gunter.

In addition to the housing changes and improvements, Maxwell will also have a neighborhood and community recreational facilities, to include a welcome/community center with fitness area; a maintenance/self-help facility; and a soccer/multi-purpose field and park.
