Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps commanders gathered for the 2016 AFROTC Commander's Conference Oct. 27-29, 2015, held at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

The three-day conference gave leadership and the 145 detachment commanders the chance to close the gap in communication and discuss issues within AFROTC and specific AFROTC detachments.

During their visit, the detachment commanders attended briefings and partook in discussions with fellow detachment commanders and AFROTC, Air University and Air Education and Training Command leadership.

A few of the big topics highlighted during the conference included professional development, budget and a decrease in manpower.

"This is a good venue for them to get together and talk about tougher issues ... and it's better to do that when everyone is together to discuss the issues," said Col. Sherry Stearns-Boles, commander of AFROTC . "We are also able from a leadership perspective to give some guidance."

Air Education and Training Command Commander Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson attended the event and spoke of the importance of good leadership and its critical role in accomplishing the mission within AETC.

"I am concerned about our ROTC manning, I am concerned about our ROTC leadership and I am concerned about the challenge we are asking you all to take on right now. We are working many things to try to improve that," said Roberson. "The bottom line is that leadership matters and that is why I wanted to come and talk to you today and thank you for your leadership."
