The 42nd Air Base Wing here welcomed a new command chief recently.

Chief Master Sgt. Erica Shipp took her seat as the Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex command chief master sergeant Dec. 14. Before her arrival, she was the superintendent of the 47th Mission Support Group at the 47th Flying Training Wing at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to serve with, mentor and develop Airmen across Maxwell and Gunter,” she said.

Shipp began her career as a food service specialist at San Vito Dei Normanni Air Station, Italy, in 1990, and has since distinguished herself as the Services NCO of the Year at Air Force Materiel Command in 2002, and the Services SNCO of the Year with Air Education and Training Command in 2008. After 22 years of dedicated service, she was promoted to chief master sergeant in 2012.

As the new command chief, Shipp is responsible for the readiness, development and mission effectiveness of the wing’s enlisted Airmen. She advises the commander on all matters related to enlisted members’ health, morale, discipline, fitness and welfare. Shipp also provides guidance and expertise to leadership for more than 4,685 military and civilian personnel.

“I look forward to seeing the amazing work our Airmen accomplish every day and what they contribute to not only the air base wing mission, but our Air Force mission as well.”

Shipp follows former Command Chief Master Sgt. Laura Callaway, who retired this past December.
