Air Force enlisted leaders gathered at Air University’s Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy to discuss current issues impacting the Air Force during the Senior Enlisted Leadership Summit, April 18 – 21, 2017.

Approximately 350 combatant command, major command and state command chiefs, career field managers, first sergeant functional mangers and Air Force Non Commissioned Officer Academy commandants were in attendance, making it one of the largest gatherings of active duty, guard and reserve enlisted leaders.

This 11th annual summit provided an opportunity for discussion between the senior enlisted and the Air Force’s newest leadership, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. David. L. Goldfein, and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright.

The senior enlisted leaders in attendance all received updates from senior leaders on issues, initiatives and policies impacting the enlisted force.

“My goal is that each of us leaves here armed with the information, contacts or resources we need to aid our enlisted force,” Chief Wright said.  “As senior enlisted leaders, it’s important that we develop those we lead, but we can never stop developing ourselves if we want to continue to be impactful leaders for our force.”

Committee chair for SELS, Senior Master Sgt. Chris Griste, said people are always excited to hear from new leadership and learn what their plans are, specifically in regards to revitalizing the force and overcoming shortages.

“The goal is to get everyone together in the same room, not necessarily for people to leave in agreeance, but for people to leave being in sync with what the message is from the top Air Force leaders,” Griste said.

The summit wrapped up with the 50th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force position recognition ceremony, featuring Wright and some of his predecessors.
