Four Maxwell-Gunter senior master sergeants were selected for promotion to chief-master-sergeant Dec. 7, 2017.

A release party was held in their honor at the Maxwell Club, where dozens of chiefs gathered in support and celebration.

Chief Master Sgt. Matthew Filsinger, Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs Group President, opened the ceremony by recognizing the chief-selects, welcoming them into the top one percent of the enlisted force structure.

“To each of the selects, the Chief’s Group would like to congratulate you on this amazing accomplishment.”

The chief-selects were recognized in front of their commanders and loved ones after their names were announced.

Filzinger Reminded the room of the words of the Chief’s Creed, stating that Chief Master Sergeants are “people whose word is their bond, who put character above wealth… who make no compromise with wrong.”

Filsinger then introduced Col Eric Shafa, Commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, who said that one of his first mentors was a senior NCO who taught him how to lead and what to expect from all Airmen.

“I just want to say congratulations to our newest Chiefs,” he said. “You are now going to be looked upon, more than ever, to help build future leaders. Not just enlisted, but officers too.”

The praise continued after ceremony’s close, with E-9s from across Maxwell AFB, Gunter Annex and Air University eager to congratulate the selectees.
