Maxwell tax center needs volunteers

  • Published
Volunteers are needed for the Maxwell legal office tax center immediately.

Tax season is fast approaching, and the Maxwell legal office needs volunteers willing to assist military members, eligible family members, eligible reservists and retirees in the preparation of income tax returns. Training will be provided by the Internal Revenue Service and the legal office on Jan. 17-20. Volunteers should respond by close of business Jan. 6.

Legal office staffing is not sufficient to meet the needs of the tax center. Consequently, the success - and availability - of the program depends upon the support of volunteers across the Maxwell-Gunter community.

Last year, volunteers helped Airmen and eligible beneficiaries file nearly 1,700 tax returns, earning the Maxwell community more than $1.5 million in tax refunds and saving them more than $237,000 in tax preparation fees.

Active duty personnel, Reservists, Air National Guard personnel, eligible military family members, retirees and civilian employees are all welcome to serve as volunteers. Previous tax experience is not necessary.

For information, contact Capt. Jon Paul Calandruccio of the Maxwell legal center at 953-2786.
