The November Base exercise, a joint exercise conducted with Autauga County officials, went "very well" said the Maxwell-Gunter Exercise Evaluation Team chief.

"This was a very smooth exercise where everyone worked well together and did exactly what they needed to do. It was an excellent exercise with our off-base partners," Gary Looney said. "I'm proud we were able to stage the aircraft wreck at the Prattville airport, and that John Henry of the medical group was able to do such a superb job of moulaging simulated victims."

Mr. Looney said in addition to Maxwell fire department and security forces personnel, the 42nd Medical Group, the base search and rescue team, or SAR team, and interim safety board, or ISB, were involved at the scene. The Autauga County Emergency Management Agency and coroner, Prattville Fire Department and Prattville Police Department also participated in the exercise that involved an aircraft accident.

He said the simulated scenario was a C-21 going down at the Prattville airport resulting in nine military members and one distinguished visitor on board being killed. On the ground, 10 civilians were simulated injured and taken to Prattville's Baptist Hospital with two of the 10 victims simulated air evacuation to the hospital.

"This is the first of the exercises we will conduct in preparation for the next air show/open house scheduled for April at Maxwell," Mr. Looney said. "This scenario, with a bird down off base, is one of the steps we need to take leading up to that event."
