New company to lead Maxwell Support Division

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Air Education and Training Command officials announced Nov. 14 that the multi-million dollar base operations support contract for Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base has been awarded ITT Corporation Systems Division.

The current contract managed by Computer Sciences Corporation expires Dec. 29. Currently, there are more than 600 people employed by CSC's Maxwell Support Division. Base leadership anticipates the transition to begin soon.

"CSC has been a strong, reliable and dedicated part of our Maxwell-Gunter team for the last six-plus years," Col. Kris Beasley, commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, wrote in a recent e-mail. "During the transition to the new contract, we know CSC will provide the same level of customer service and professionalism that they have since July 2002."

The contract, worth $370 million, includes a one-year base period and five one-year options. The base operations support contract provides civil engineer, base supply, transportation, communications, airfield management, community support and other services that sustain daily operations of the base.

The recipient of the contract is part of ITT Corporation, a diverse, high-technology engineering and manufacturing company based in Colorado Springs, Colo., which employs approximately 40,000 people worldwide.

"Maxwell-Gunter will continue to employ people to work as our base operations support contractor workforce," Colonel Beasley said in a press release. "The overall change to our workforce should be minimal."
