Maxwell leaders hosted a Combat Dining-In event at the base Honor Guard hangar, Nov. 4, 2016, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

With mouths full of marshmallows and soaked “uniforms,” active duty members here partook in an age-old tradition in the form of a combat dining-in.

The theme of the event was “past, present and future” and allowed the wearing of creative and altered versions of the military uniform, as long as in good taste, and water fights with the use of water projected toy weapons and water balloons.

Before the event, attendees received the 20 Rules of Engagement: a list containing everything that was and was not permitted at the event. These rules covered everything from maintaining safety to encouraging people to have a good time while at the event. Rule number 20: “Thou shalt vigorously endeavor to enjoy this event!”

Attendees were split up into two overall teams: Red and Blue, which consisted of several smaller teams.

Throughout the night, teams competed in various challenges, including balancing a cup of water while performing push-ups, stuffing one’s mouth with the most marshmallows possible and brainstorming the best team name and flag.

In between challenges, teams attempted to steal one another’s team flags. Attendees were authorized to use water balloons or any other water projecting weapon to protect their stations.

The combat dining in ended with a water fight on the flight line outside the hangar. A tie was announced between the blue and red team and there was a game of tug-of-war to decide the winner. The red team left the Combat Dining-In as the overall winners.
