FACT CHECK: Barksdale Drone Incursion Published March 31, 2026 By Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs Air Force Global Strike Command BARKSDALE AIR FORCE, La. -- To clear up inaccurate and incomplete reporting, beginning Monday, March 9, Barksdale AFB experienced several unauthorized drone incursions that varied in duration and number of drones. Out of an abundance of caution in response to the initial event, Barksdale base leadership issued a Shelter in Place order for the morning of March 9 that was lifted that same morning. Operations from Barksdale AFB continue unabated and the incident remains under an active federal investigation. To effectively counter this evolving threat, the Department of War has mobilized a coordinated, multi-organizational effort. AFGSC is a key contributor to these national efforts, while simultaneously leveraging internal innovation to develop tailored solutions, including training efforts, for unique operational challenges posed by small Unmanned Aircraft System threats to our ICBM fields, Weapons Storage Areas, Weapons Generation Facilities, and growing bomber mission. Along with these efforts to enhance existing counter-sUAS architecture already in place, AFGSC has temporarily deployed additional capability; however, the details and location(s) are being withheld due to operational security.
