CJCS hosts trilateral meeting at USPACOM headquarters
Commander U.S. Forces Korea, Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Japan Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff, Adm. Katsutoshi Kawano; Republic of Korea (ROK) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Jeong Kyeong-doo, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM), Adm. Harry Harris, and Commander U.S. Forces Japan, Lt. Gen. Jerry P. Martinez gather for trilateral meeting at USPACOM headquarters. The session was the fifth between the senior most U.S., ROK and Japanese military officers since July, 2014. The leaders discussed multilateral and bilateral initiatives designed to improve interoperability and readiness as well as North Korea’s recent long-range ballistic missile and nuclear tests and agreed to firmly respond to the acts in full coordination with each other. Dunford reaffirmed the ironclad commitment of the U.S. to defend both the ROK and Japan and provide extended deterrence guaranteed by the full spectrum of U.S. military capabilities.
