The Maxwell Air Force Base Honor Guard present the colors at the opening of the Alabama House joint session, March 19, 2026, proclaiming the day as Alabama State Legislature Military Appreciation Day. The event gathered military, veterans and defense community leaders, the Alabama Military Stability Commission and Foundation and other stakeholders from across the state. Military leaders making remarks include Air Force Col. Shamekia Toliver, installation commander, Maxwell Air Force Base, and Jeffery Newton, commissioner, Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.
