Family Honor

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, center, poses with the family of Army Capt. Willibald Bianchi before a ceremony commemorating National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the Pentagon, Sept. 19, 2025. Bianchi was killed Jan. 9, 1945, when the Japanese POW ship on which he was detained was bombed. His mother received his Medal of Honor on his behalf during a ceremony held June 7, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minn. Bianchi's remains were identified in August 2025.
