    A critical element of the Air Force ROTC Field Training encampment curriculum is the Leadership Reaction Course. The LRC is a series of obstacles that challenge cadets’ leadership and followership skills, problem-solving acumen and physical abilities.
  • Air University’s inaugural SWOTS focuses on learning, teaching space topics

    Air University’s inaugural Summer Workshop on Teaching Space held recently provided attendees with substantive knowledge on space, including leading edge information and in-depth analysis of classic space studies. The weeklong workshop, July 26-30, 2021, at MGMWERX in Montgomery, Alabama, also served as a forum to share information and provide ideas for stimulating learning and teaching on space topics.
  • AFIT gets new leadership

    The Air Force Institute of Technology welcomed two new senior leaders in separate ceremonies at Wright-Patterson AFB. Dr. Walter Jones officially became AFIT's new director and second chancellor in an acceptance-of-leadership ceremony July 27.

    The Air University Innovation Accelerator office’s vision is to push the university’s contributions to national security, strategic competition and integrated deterrence “one step beyond.” The AUiX office provides resources, expertise and processes for networking innovative ideas and research from students, faculty and staff with innovation partners.
  • Air University commander experiences AFROTC Field Training

    Lt. Gen. James Hecker, commander and president of Air University, visited Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, Mississippi, July 13 to observe the training and evaluation of cadets at Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Field Training 2021. Though the training usually takes place at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, a combination of factors including impacts to the 2020 training cycle from COVID-19 led to the decision to move the encampment to Camp Shelby. Hecker was accompanied by commanders and stakeholders in the training enterprise.

    As a former “foreign kid” in Brazil’s National War College, I was challenged with learning and operating in a language not of my own. I experienced the very real fear that my intellect would be surmised from my inability to smoothly converse, convince and direct others in Portuguese. These are the same challenges many of our Air Force ROTC cadets experience when English is their second language.
