Two Maxwell Defenders were recently recognized at the command level for superior performance over the past year.

Tech. Sgt. Derryn Beasley and Mr. Darrell Castilio were lauded as the top Security Forces Airmen in their category by Air Education and Training Command.

Beasley was named AETC Security Forces flight level Noncommissioned Officer of the year and Castilio earned the top spot for AETC Security Forces Category 1 Civilian of the Year Nonsupervisory Level.

These awards were given after a review of their duty job performance, community involvement and significant self-improvement.

"As long as you do everything you're supposed to and stay in your lane, these awards come, said Castilio, a retired Air Force senior NCO. "Do your job every day and people take notice of that."

As the face of the installation, these members are highly visible to base personnel and have the opportunity to impact over 12,000 members daily.

"Treat people the way you want to be treated and work hard every day and people respect that," said Castilio. "Awards are just a validation of your hard work and preparation daily. When people recognize that, it makes you want to work even harder knowing people take notice of that."

For Beasley, this was second time being recognized for his exceptional performance, winning the award for quarter last year.

"I did win this award last year but really wanted to become a better NCO this year and feel like I'm improving," said Beasley, the master's degree in education student who aspires to obtain his PhD while in uniform. "I focused on the whole person concept and tried to seek out mentorship from others around base. I give all the credit for receiving this award to my shop and my Airmen who perform every day. I really believe that if I invest in my shop and my people they will turn around and invest in me and do excellent work.
