Colonel Raymond K. Rounds is the Commandant and Dean of the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. SAASS is a highly selective, one-year graduate program designed to educate strategists for the Department of the Air Force, the joint force, and the nation. In this role, Colonel Rounds leads a faculty of 17 terminally credentialed faculty members and 45 Air Force, Space Force, Department of War and international students annually.
Colonel Rounds commissioned in 2003 as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has served as an instructor pilot in both the F-15E and Mirage 2000D and has deployed multiple times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Spartan Shield, Inherent Resolve, and Allies
Refuge. Colonel Rounds also served as the Strategy Team Chief for the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Executive Action Group. He holds advanced degrees from the University of Maryland and the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies and holds a PhD in Government from Georgetown University.
Prior to his current position, the Colonel was the Commander of the Ira C. Eaker Center for Leadership Development.
