Privacy Act:  As a federal military education institution, AU must adhere to the guidelines of the Privacy Act of 1974 to protect the confidentiality and integrity of student records.  The U.S. Department of Education, Family Policy Compliance Office, considers AU a DoD Section 6 school, solely funded by the DoD under 10 United States Code (USC) Section 2164, and it is therefore exempt from the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  Though not required to y law, AU complies with its basic tenets whenever possible.  The university is committed to protecting, to the maximum extent possible, the right to privacy of all individuals for whom it holds information and/or records.
