FAQs

This two-day virtual conference begins with opening remarks and includes a keynote session with Dr. Susan Hrach as well as a working lunch meeting of the professional military education Faculty Consortium. All PME educators are welcome to attend the working lunch meeting, which will be facilitated by Dr. Lauren MacKenzie of Marine Corps University. Throughout the conference, there will be multiple breakout presentations of research in 7 conference tracks. Those tracks include: (1) evidence-based instructional strategies, (2) faculty development, (3) assessment, (4) learning theories and andragogy, (5) distributed learning, (6) educational technology, and (7) research methods in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Finally, editors of the Journal of Military Learning will lead a session on best practices for publishing your work.
Anyone is welcome to submit a proposal for a 20-minute presentation or a 60-minute panel discussion. Proposal submissions are due by 28 January via the Teaching and Learning Center website. Reviewers will consider proposals sharing completed research, research-in-progress, and initial findings from pilot programs. If submitting a proposal, you will be asked to share your research questions and methods, how your project is a new contribution to the existing literature on the topic, and the implications of your project for professional military education.
Registration is free and available on the Air University Teaching and Learning Center website until 8 April.
In a change from prior years, the scope of this conference now includes ALL military learning environments and not just professional military education. We welcome attendees from military and government backgrounds, both in the U.S. and internationally, as well as our colleagues in civilian higher education and K-12 education. Some presentations may also interest those who work in the educational technology industry. The free and virtual format of the MSOTL Forum ensures it is accessible to as many people as possible. Last year, 210 different organizations around the world were represented.
At a minimum, the opening and closing remarks, keynote session, Journal of Military Learning workshop, and working lunch meeting of the PME Faculty Consortium will be recorded for later viewing.
