ACSC presents 480 diplomas Published June 17, 2013 By Donovan Jackson Air University Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. - -- In celebration of academic accomplishments, the Air Command and Staff College hosted its annual graduation ceremony Monday at Polifka Auditorium. The ACSC class of 2013 is comprised of 480 graduates, including 298 Airmen, 43 Soldiers, 29 Sailors, 12 Marines, 22 civilians and 76 international officers from 65 countries. There were 50 distinguished graduates. ACSC prepares field grade officers and civilian equivalents to develop, employ and command airpower in joint, multinational and interagency operations. Guest speaker, Maj. Gen. Walter Givhan, commander of the Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education and vice commander of the Air University, told the graduates that they should be proud of all that they have accomplished. From his own experience, he said he can relate to all the hard work given to their studies. "All of us who have gathered here to celebrate your graduation also share that pride and feeling of accomplishment," Givhan said. He also explained to the graduates the importance of their education as they continue their development to becoming future leaders. "Graduate class of 2013, you have proven yourselves, and now it is time to send you forth into the world," he said. "As you go forward, I ask that you value your education as a strategic investment and never quit augmenting yours. These times demand that you continue to grow as leaders with your ACSC education. Take advantage and know that your education is what will prepare you for success." Class president Maj. Mark A. Redfern and international class president Lt. Col. Adel H. Bin Sanqoor gave a joint speech. "We have accomplished a lot during this year," said Sanqoor. "Academics were a big part of our year," Redfern replied. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have embraced us with their knowledge and wisdom while enabling our growth these past 10 months." Brigadier Gen. Thomas Deale, ACSC commandant, concluded the ceremony by setting expectations for the graduates. "It is my privilege to be the last speaker and say farewell to the graduating class of 2013," he said. "Ten months ago, we began a journey. You are the future leaders of your generation, respected nations and services. Our expectations of you are high. We expect you to lead and command. I believe that our future is in good hands."
