China’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) released images on 28 November showing the test-firing in Beijing of what appears to be a new counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS).
The shelter (ISO container)-based, truck-mounted C-UAS, which the MND refers to as a short-range air defence system, appears to be carried by at least two vehicles: one features detection and jamming equipment while another is fitted with a laser-based weapon.

A laser emitter, a tracker (EO and thermal), and a laser rangefinder are present on a stabilised elevatable and rotatable platform that is mounted on the roof of another shelter.
In addition to detection, tracking, and counter-UAS equipment, the shelters likely carry power-generation units, along with control consoles and communication systems.
Images of the test-firing show a thin metal plate carried by a mini-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), thought to be a Chinese-made DJI Phantom 2, being targeted by a laser.
The prolonged illumination results in a large hole being formed in the plate. Another image shows what appears to be another mini-UAV, likely a Syma X8C, featuring a small sooty hole melted into its side, which was presumably caused by being illuminated by the same laser from the C-UAS.
