Introducing the 2018 edition of the continuing series on the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) by the US Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, the National Bureau of Asian Research, and US Indo-Pacific Command is my distinct pleasure. This volume, The People in the PLA 2.0, is a sequel of sorts to the 2008 edition, The "People" in the PLA: Recruitment, Training, and Education in China’s Military. A resource as complete as this one that focuses on some of the less tangible, but no less vital, aspects of PLA readiness is rare. To have two companion volumes do so is exceptionally rare.
