Book Submission Guidelines

Air University (AU) Press is the publishing arm of Air University, delivering combat-relevant knowledge through scholarly books, journals, faculty research, and select student works. Our mission: to arm airpower professionals with the intellectual firepower to dominate across the spectrum of conflict. AU Press publications support professional military education (PME), inform doctrine, and drive operational advantage for the Department of the Air Force and the Joint Force.

We publish mission-focused work for warfighters, strategists, and decision-makers worldwide. Our content is designed to sharpen thinking, strengthen lethality, and support national defense objectives across all domains—air, space, and cyber.

AU Press actively seeks hard-hitting manuscripts from military and civilian authors on topics such as:

• air, space, and cyber power doctrine and strategy;

• the nature and future of air, space, and cyber power’s role in warfare and peace;

• the history of air, space, and cyber power;

• case studies of the employment of air, space, and cyber power at all levels of conflict;

• international relations, regional security studies, and strategic issues;

• the Space Force; and

• biographies and leadership studies of air, space, and cyber power personalities, pioneers, units, theorists, leaders, and commanders.

Submissions must focus on warfighting relevance. AU Press does not accept work centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives or climate change advocacy. All manuscripts must comply with applicable executive orders and Department of Defense directives, and must support combat effectiveness, strategic clarity, and national security priorities.

The publication process is rigorous and deliberate, designed to ensure intellectual credibility and operational relevance. Manuscripts typically take six months or more to review and publish, depending on quality and security review timelines. AU Press coordinates security reviews; interagency authors are responsible for ensuring compliance with their home organization’s policies prior to submission.

Air University Press is committed to advancing scholarly and professional discourse in support of the Air Force, the Department of Defense, and the broader U.S. Government. To align with this mission, Air University Press books and journals will prioritize the peer review and developmental editing of manuscript submissions originating from the following sources:

  • Air University programs and affiliated institutions
  • Department of the Air Force personnel
  • Department of Defense entities and personnel
  • Other US Government authors and agencies

This prioritization ensures that the research and perspectives of those directly contributing to national defense and security are promptly and effectively supported in the academic publishing process. While submissions from outside these categories remain welcome and will continue to be considered on their scholarly merit, those from the prioritized categories will receive expedited editorial attention to enhance the relevance and timeliness of their contribution to defense-related scholarship.

Note: Air University Press does not forward completed doctoral dissertations for external peer review.
