Dr. Todd Stewart currently serves as Director and Chancellor, Air Force Institute of Technology. In this position, he leads a team of more than 500 military and civilian Airmen who provide professional continuing education to more than 25,000 people annually and advanced academic education to more than 3,000 graduate students.
Dr. Stewart served for 34 years with the United States Air Force. His military career included numerous command and staff assignments in positions responsible for combat engineering and installation management, including infrastructure construction, operation and maintenance, energy management, environmental protection and military family housing management at Air Force bases in the United States and around the world. While on active duty, he also served as an Associate Professor of Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology. In his final assignment, Dr. Stewart was responsible for developing and implementing long-range plans and programs related to Air Force organizations responsible for systems acquisition, research and development, test and evaluation, depot-level maintenance, supply and transportation. He retired from active service in April 2002, in the grade of Major General.
In 2006, President George W. Bush appointed Dr. Stewart (with U.S. Senate confirmation) to serve as a member of the National Security Education Board. This board oversees the National Security Education Program, a major Federal initiative, established in law, designed to build a larger pool of U.S. citizens with enhanced foreign language skills and a better understanding of the culture, history, economics, politics and government of other countries.
In 2011, the Secretary of the Air Force appointed Dr. Stewart to a four-year term on the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He has also served as a consultant to federal government agencies, the state of Ohio, and private-sector organizations, on a variety of national-security and other issues.
