The Air Force Culture and Language Center announced the Language Enabled Airman Program will accept U.S. Air Force Academy and Air Force ROTC Cadet applications beginning 10 January through 7 March for the 2022 application cycle. U.S. Air Force Academy cadets must submit applications through the Language Enabled Airman Development Resource at https://leader.sso.cce.af.mil. Applicants that need to create or update their AU Portal account will be redirected to the AU Portal upon initial attempt to access the site.

Applicants who do not have a CAC may download a PDF of the application from the AFCLC website at https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/AFCLC/Language-Studies/. Additionally, to safeguard Personal Identifying Information, Air Force ROTC applicants should provide their complete application package to a detachment staff or cadre member for submission via encrypted e-mail to afclc.leap.selection@us.af.mil.

LEAP is a career-spanning program to sustain and improve Airmen’s and U.S. Space Force Guardian’s language and cultural capabilities. Managed by AFCLC, LEAP develops cross-culturally competent leaders who meet air and space force mission requirements.

To become a LEAP scholar, applicants must demonstrate some level of proficiency in a foreign language specified on the Air Force Strategic Language List, receive endorsement from their Detachment Commander for AFROTC or Air Officer Commanding for USAFA, and compete via a board process.  Selection to LEAP is based on applicants’ academic history and job performance, existing language proficiency, potential to achieve higher levels of language proficiency, and Department of the Air Force language requirements.

LEAP Scholars are required to complete online eMentor language courses and attend periodic language immersions known as Language Intensive Training Events.

As of January 2022, there are more than 3,400 scholars in LEAP. For more information on dates and eligibility requirements, please visit our website at https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/AFCLC/Language-studies/ or contact us at afclc.leap.selection@us.af.mil.
