Expeditionary Courses

Our Expeditionary Courses equip Airmen prior to their deployment with basic cross-cultural competence skills via online training. These courses are mandatory for General Purpose Force (GPF) Airmen assigned to Air Expeditionary Forces (AEF) tempo deployment bands.


The courses are delivered in 2 parts: Basic Deployment Readiness AOR Specific and Basic Deployment Readiness Country Specific. They are delivered through the Air Force’s Advanced Distributed Learning Service (ADLS) and can be found in the Course List under Expeditionary Readiness Training (ERT):


Air Force Culture General Course (ZZ133104)
This course discusses "What is Culture?" and the two skills associated with being a cross-culturally competent Airman: Perspective Taking and Cultural Analysis. Perspective Taking is the ability to recognize your own cultural perspective, and use that personal understanding to recognize the cultural perspectives of others. Cultural Analysis involves learning how to recognize and analyze the domains of culture, which are the subcategories of culture that are shared by everyone.

USCENTCOM AF Culture Specific-Afghanistan
Each student will comprehend how an awareness of the fundamentals of Afghan culture influence and achieve mutually beneficial results through cross cultural interaction.

USCENTCOM AF Culture Specific-Iraq
Each student will comprehend how an awareness of the fundamentals of Iraqi culture influence and achieve mutually beneficial results through cross cultural interaction.
