When the latest National Defense Strategy was recently released, it reinforced that the Air Force Culture and Language Center and the Language Enabled Airman Program are more critical to national defense than ever before.

The LEAP program is much different than commercial language programs or any existing language school. In addition to language skills, LEAP Scholars “speak the language of Air Force” with a mastery of the technical vocabulary and operating concepts in the target language.  These skills reduce operational risk at the seams of coalition operations and enhance lethality through exquisite interoperability when executing complex maneuver using agile combat employment.

As warfighters, LEAP Scholars are part of the fight, but they also solve problems for other war fighters, to include at the joint level, around the world. They have the ability for mission execution at an ever-increasing rate of pace.

Over the coming weeks, the AFCLC Outreach team will be publishing a series of stories that highlight how the AFCLC aligns with the National Defense Strategy and the Joint Warfighting Concept. These stories will highlight some truths about language and culture in military operations:  (1) language and culture are as foundational to producing kinetic effects in a coalition setting as they are to partnership building (2) language and culture facilitate training to a common standard with partners which increases capacity to address shared security interests (3) confounds adversary perception of strength when US and partner nations seamlessly employ ACE concepts together at a dominant tempo.  We encourage you to follow along to learn how language and culture capabilities are a critical component of national security and modern warfare.  Always has been, always will be.
