The Language Enabled Airman Program is a career-spanning program aimed to sustain and improve Airmen’s and U.S. Space Force Guardian’s language and cultural capabilities. Managed by the Air Force Culture and Language Center, the program seeks to develop cross-culturally competent leaders who can meet Air and Space Force mission requirements.

To become a LEAP scholar, applicants must demonstrate some level of proficiency in a foreign language specified on the Air Force Strategic Language List, receive endorsement from their Detachment Commander for AFROTC or Air Officer Commanding for USAFA, and compete via a board process.  Selection to LEAP is based on applicants’ academic history and job performance, existing language proficiency, potential to achieve higher levels of language proficiency, and Air Force language requirements.

Participants in LEAP are required to complete online eMentor language courses and attend periodic language immersions known as Language Intensive Training Events.

As of January 2021, there are more than 3,200 scholars in LEAP. For more information on dates and eligibility requirements, please visit our website at or contact us at
