The Air Force Culture and Language Center (AFCLC) is accepting applications to the Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP). Regular Active Duty Officer and Enlisted members from the Air Force and Space Force may apply online 3 May through 16 July 2021.

Applying through the Language Enabled Airman Development Resource (LEADeR) requires a Common Access Card (CAC) and Air Force Portal account. Applicants must submit applications through LEADeR at https://leader.sso.cce.af.mil. Applicants that need to create or update their Portal account will be redirected to the Portal upon your initial access attempt.

LEAP is an AFCLC-managed volunteer program open to most Specialty Codes. LEAP deliberately develops language-enabled, cross-cultural Airmen and Guardians with working-level foreign language proficiency. With these skills, service members can better support the application of air and space power through strengthening partnerships and interoperability.  There are more than 3,000 participants in LEAP.

To become a LEAP scholar, Airmen and Guardians must demonstrate some level of proficiency in a foreign language specified on the Air Force Strategic Language List, receive endorsement from their unit commander, and compete via a board process. Selection to LEAP is based on applicants’ job performance, existing language proficiency, potential to achieve higher levels of language proficiency, and Air Force and Space Force language requirements.

Participants in LEAP are required to complete online eMentor courses and attend periodic Language Intensive Training Events. Successful completion of program requirements will result in eligibility for the LEAP Special Experience Identifier (SEI) and consideration for Foreign Language Proficiency Pay, assignments, and other language-related opportunities.
